Bridgeburg Station, Historic Downtown Fort Erie --More Than A Shopping Area

Retail and service areas have always been, and still are, the major social and business centres for their communities. These centres not only capture a wide range of beneficial services, they also reflect the history of the urban area.

A full range of buildings from fire halls to houses can be found in Bridgeburg's business centre. All contribute to the area's diversity and uniqueness. Underlining this is the significance of the pedestrian and his/her relationship to the street and the buildings that line it. As a result, it is important to keep in mind that the primary function of these buildings is to support the various activities which take place there.

Window shopping is invited by the physical features of the street. The many shop windows, side by side, form a continuous display case along the street. Awnings, recessed entries and continuous, generous sidewalks also encourage window shopping.

Bridgeburg Station, Historic Downtown Fort Erie's Business Improvement Association in partnership with the Town of Fort Erie has developed a unique matching funds programme to help restore and revitalize the historic downtown core.

The Façade Improvement Grant Programme is designed to help owners and business proprietors in the designated retail and business area of the BIA.

The Town of Fort Erie is committed to the vitality of its shopping and business districts and supports revitalization through its Business Improvement Areas.

The Façade Programme is one more tool to help the BIA maintain and improve its position in the marketplace. The BIA and the Town of Fort Erie encourage your participation in this effort.

The Façade Improvement Grant Programme will provide partial funding for the improvement of existing façade treatments on commercial properties within the BIA. Under this programme, the Town of Fort Erie will match dollar for dollar up to a maximum of $3,000 per year (subject to availability of funding) of the owner's costs for appropriate improvements.

To be eligible for the grant programme the applicant (any BIA business owner or commercial building owner) must submit a formal application along with a professionally drawn façade design consistent with the BIA's Streetscape Master Plan, and, after approval, execute the approved improvements.
