About the Business Improvement Association

Mission Statement 

Our goal is to develop the downtown core and to position
Bridgeburg Station as a unique tourism centre in the Niagara Region

A BIA allows local business people and property owners to join together, and, with the support of the municipality, organize, finance and carry out physical improvement and promote economic development in their district. The local municipality is the body responsible for establishing and approving the budget of the BIA. Provisions for creating and operating a BIA are contained in section 220 of the Municipal Act. Bridgeburg Station, Historic Downtown Fort Erie's BIA responsibilities include:Marketing, planning, research & development, promotions and special events

  • Business recruitment of new property owners and tenants
  • Streetscape improvements, beautification, street furniture, signage, lighting, banners etc.
  • Display of seasonal decorations
  • Development and execution of the Town of Fort Erie/BIA Membership Facade Improvement Program
  • Maintaining an effective Business Watch Program
  • Increasing community interest and pride in the district
  • Fostering on-going cooperation among members
  • Cultivating lines of communication between BIA members, Town of Fort Erie Council and municipal staff
  • Increasing cost savings for its members through improved integration of capital funding and promotional activities

BIA Funding

The BIA is funded by a four per cent tax levy on all industrial and commercial properties within its BIA boundaries (this levy is often passed down to business tenants through lease charges).

BIA TAX Levy Funds Usage

Marketing, advertising, planning, research and development of downtown area.

Special events such as Santa Claus Parade, Halloween Event, Car Show, Chautauqua Event, Dash and Splash Race, etc.

Streetscape improvements, beautification, street furniture, signage, lighting, banners, etc.

Seasonal decorations, Christmas lights, Christmas tree, Post Office exterior decoration etc.

Flower basket and flower bed planting and maintenance

Bench maintenance

Regular litter removal

Bridgeburg Blooms and other seasonal competitions

BIA office rent

Office Supplies, expenses and managers wage.

How The BIA And Its Members Work Together:

The BIAs' Beautification Budget is funded by monies raised through the volunteer efforts of The Friends of Bridgeburg Station.

Here's What The BIA Can Do For You:

  • Make the area more pleasant to work and shop, through clean-up and landscaping programs
  • Provide a central lobby point for area concerns with the town and the region
  • Plan, promote and execute district events
  • Build programs to increase real estate values through its real estate consultant
  • Assist in leasing and selling your property through its real estate consultant
  • Provide a business security infrastructure
  • Actively promote new business to relocate here through its real estate consultant
  • Provide a business security infrastructure

Here's What The BIA Can Do For You, With Your Assistance:

  • Provide detailed information on your business to the community-at-large and its bordering municipalities
  • Provide detailed information on your building for the purpose of immediate lease or sale to potential leasers and buyers through its real estate consultant
  • Host special events such as Halloween and the Santa Claus Parade Warm-Up Party
  • Participate in fundraising bingos in order to expand and improve the quality of its programs
  • Improve property values through concentrated clean-up efforts – creating a quaint, unique urban village that is clean, safe, friendly and a pleasant place to be
